Edmonton is truly one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever lived in — and I say this as someone who has lived on three continents and travels often. When I call a city beautiful, I mean it. There’s something uniquely special about this place that captures your heart and makes you feel at home.
Of course, like many Canadian cities, Edmonton has its share of cold winters. But let’s be honest — where in Canada isn’t cold in the winter? What sets Edmonton apart is its dry climate and the remarkable number of sunny days, even during the chilliest months. That sunshine changes everything. It invites you to step outside, breathe in the crisp air, and enjoy the day rather than hide from it.
Just last week, I was reminded again of how lucky we are to live here. My daughter, my sister, and her grandchildren — visiting all the way from Germany — joined me for a walk to Taste of Edmonton, one of the city’s beloved summer festivals. We strolled down Jasper Avenue, soaking in the views that make this city shine: the Muttart Conservatory domes in the distance, the graceful span of the LRT bridge over the river valley, and the ever-burning flame beside the Shaw Conference Centre.
It was the perfect walk — a simple but powerful reminder that Edmonton is more than just a city. It’s a place that blends natural beauty, cultural vibrancy, and a warm sense of community. And for those of us lucky enough to live here, that beauty is something we get to enjoy every single day.
